A qualitative run-through of every trade from 2026-01-14: setups, thought process, and outcomes.
The day started with ROLR, which had been trading actively in the consumer cyclical sector. My first entry was at 15.56, looking for a bounce off the VWAP after it had pulled back. The setup felt solid, and I was able to ride it up to a best exit of 16.65, closing out with an average exit of 16.24 for a profit of +$476. The tape showed buyers stepping in as it approached the VWAP, and I was confident in the move.
However, I quickly fell into a pattern of chasing ROLR. My next entry at 15.67 was an extended one, as the stock had already shown some weakness. It dropped sharply, and I had to cut my losses for a -$1,012 hit at an average exit of 14.61. The tape was telling me that sellers were aggressive, and I should’ve been more cautious.
I attempted to re-enter ROLR again shortly after, this time at 15.65, but the stock continued to struggle. I managed to exit at 15.73 for a loss of -$436. The stock was choppy, failing to hold above critical support levels. I should’ve recognized that the momentum wasn’t there.
Next, I took another entry at 16.23, but the same story played out. I got out at 15.89, losing another -$372. It was frustrating to watch ROLR fail to reclaim the VWAP after multiple attempts. The sellers were staying heavy, and I missed the signs that it was not ready to bounce back.
Finally, I decided to take a long position at 16.65, which turned out to be the right call. The stock picked up momentum and I exited at 18.77 for a solid gain of +$2,782. This was a classic example of a washout long; after the aggressive selling earlier in the day, buyers stepped in, and I rode that wave for a nice profit.
Later, I saw an opportunity again with ROLR at 22.07. It was a washout long setup, and I got out at 23.41 for a profit of +$535. The tape showed strong buying interest after a brief dip, and it was encouraging to see follow-through after the earlier struggles.
I took a final trade on ROLR at 28.84, but it was a late-day washout long that didn't pan out. I had to exit at 26.36 for a loss of -$1,565. The stock had gapped up earlier but couldn’t hold its gains, and I got caught in the downward move.
Overall, the day was a mix of solid gains and frustrating losses. I had moments of clarity, especially with the washout longs, but I also let some earlier trades get away from me.
What I did well: I identified and executed well on the washout long setups.
What I did poorly: I chased ROLR too aggressively in the mid-morning trades.
Trading grade: B — Solid execution on the successful trades but poor timing on the earlier entries.
Looking for a clearer setup tomorrow.
