A qualitative run-through of every trade from 2026-01-06: setups, thought process, and outcomes.
It was a challenging day with some notable swings, especially in the biotech and consumer cyclical sectors. The action was mostly driven by a mix of gap plays and some real volatility in the names I was watching.
My first significant trade was on MNTS. I entered at 10.42 during a sub vwap trap setup, looking for a bounce after it pulled below VWAP. The 1m9 was nearby at 10.16, which provided a bit of a cushion for my entry. Initially, it looked promising, but after a brief spike, sellers became aggressive, and the price faded down to 9.84. My best exit was at 10.28, but I ultimately took a loss of about $937. This trade showed how quickly sentiment can shift, especially in a name that had been under pressure with a relatively high short interest.
Later in the day, I shifted gears and took a long position in EMAT, entering at 21.56. This was more of a scalp trade, and it was clear that buyers were stepping in. The stock was moving up nicely, and I managed to exit at 24.72 for a gain of $481. It was a solid move, and the momentum held well through my trade. The stock gapped up earlier in the session, which contributed to its volatility and appeal for quick trades.
Overall, I executed 36 trades today, with a win rate just over 50%. While I had some winners, my losses were larger than my gains, which made it tough to recover overall. The market seemed choppy, and I could feel the rotation in sectors, with healthcare and consumer cyclicals drawing attention.
What I did well was recognizing the potential for quick gains in EMAT and executing the trade with precision. On the other hand, I should have been more cautious with my size on MNTS; the setup felt good, but the follow-through just wasn’t there.
Trading grade: C - Mixed execution with a couple of solid trades but larger losses on others.
Looking forward to tomorrow, hoping for clearer setups to capitalize on.
